Flipped Classroom
Flipped learning is a pedagogical approach in which the conventional notion of classroom-based learning is inverted so that students are introduced to the learning material before class with classroom time then being used to deepen understanding through discussion with peers and problem-solving activities facilitated by teachers.
Reflections from Lesson 6 on Visual Studies Bronze Age Flipped Classroom Presentations
Some of the presentations were a bit weaker this week, as they were from the students who struggled with the process and delayed submitting their work. I am debating whether to keep going with the presentations in class as it slows down getting the information to the students and I need to spend a lot of time addressing problems in the work and correcting information. Ideally when doing this again, I would return the work and ask the students to correct their presentations before presenting to the class but when I realised this, there wasn’t enough time and it has been an ongoing battle to get students to hand up the work regularly.
Overall I think this was a useful exercise, empowering students to do their own research and introducing student voice into this section of the Visual Art curriculum. I think students enjoyed the process and gave them agency over their own learning.
